Lyons and Stanning show strong performances in GB ergo tests

Dave Lyons and Heather Stanning both showed strong performances in their recent erg tests and both finished at the top end of the men’s and women’s Under 23 Squads.

Dave’s time of 5:56.3 is a one second PB and shows his talent after a couple of weeks reduced training following an injury.Heather had a blip in her last 2k test with a 7:03 following her sub-7 minutes in November but showed that her training is paying off with a strong 6:54.1.

Dave Lyons.JPGOther strong showings in the University of Bath squads saw Anna Davidson carve out a PB pulling 7:11.1 which beat a couple of the club guys whilst the University already has eight guys under 6:30 which is an improvement compared to the past three years.

However, it is still a fair way off the mark. On average however, the erg scores are heading in the right direction. Whilse new World Class Start recruit Merrick Odam was capped at 22 strokes per minute he performed well to finish in the top half of the mens’ squad by pulling an impressive 6:39.2.

Merrick is making great progress in the boat and is hoping to be promoted from Group D to Group C at the next World Class Start testing camp.

Up coming events include the Men’s Head of the River race  on 31st March, Senior Trials for Dave and Heather in April at Hazewinkel, Belgium and the BUSA Championships in May at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham.

The World Class Start and Potential Programme is funded by Lottery Money and more recently is sponsored by Siemens and has a remit to identify future GB Olympians.
