AFC Team Bath Ladies put a dozen past Reading
AFC Team Bath Ladies won their first match playing in Team Bath colours on Sunday (9th September) – and they did it in style by putting a dozen goals past Reading Royals.
AFC Team Bath Ladies ran out 12-0 winners at Reading, scoring six goals in each half to secure their first three points of the season in the Southern Premier Division. Strikers Elen King and Cheryl Baber bagged a hat-trick each while central midfielder Carla Bryant scored a brace of goals.
Right back Jo How scored from 40 yards out, while midfielders Kirstie Richardson and Tina Wakefield added a goal a-piece and centre back Carla Greenham scored with a header from a corner.
It was the side’s first victory since changing their name from Bristol City and relocating to the University of Bath in the summer.
“Reading were a young and inexperienced side, but we still played excellently,” said AFC TeamBath Ladies coach Wayne Roberts.
“We can’t get carried away though because quite a few other teams will do well against Reading unless they can recruit a few more players,” he added. “Survival is still our main aim this season, but Sunday’s result has given our players confidence in what we’re trying to do here in the long-term.”
AFC Team Bath Ladies, now ninth in the table, return to action on Sunday (16th September) in the league with a trip to fourth placed Millwall Lionesses.
The University of Bath has one of the leading university sports departments in the UK. Under its Team Bath brand, its success is based on the expertise and dedication of staff, and its excellent facilities, used by the community and Olympic medal winners alike.
