Weale 18th at Cairo World Cup

Britain’s Sam Weale finished 18th in the second modern pentathlon World Cup competition of the year, which took place in Cairo over the weekend.

Weale, who has a degree in Sports Technology from the University of Bath, was the only British man to reach Sunday’s final.

Gold went to Ondrej Polivka of the Czech Republic – the athlete that Weale beat into second place to win the Bath International two weeks ago.

All four British women reached their final on Saturday, with Heather Fell finishing as the highest placed Brit in 19th. Louise Helyer came 19th with 19-year-old Lydia Rosling coming 25th at her second World Cup and Charlotte Grandfield finishing 28th.

The competition in Cairo was the second World Cup to feature the sport’s new combined run/shoot format.
