Freeman-Pask finishes eighth at World Champs
There was disappointment for University of Bath graduates Adam Freeman-Pask and Marcus Bateman at the World Rowing Championships in Poland.
Freeman-Pask had to settle for a place in the B final of the lightweight single scull after finishing sixth in his semi-final in Poznan.
The University of Bath Natural Sciences graduate came second in the B final, finishing seven seconds behind Jaap Schouten of the Netherlands.
That put him eighth overall – an improvement on his 13th at last year’s World Championships.
Sports Technology graduate Bateman meanwhile was a member of the GB quadruple scull at the championships. The quad had to withdraw ahead of the repechages due to an injury to crew member Charles Cousins.
Both Freeman-Pask and Bateman were coached by Paul Stannard while studying at the University of Bath.
Bateman learnt to row seriously while at the University of Bath as part of GB Rowing’s World Class Start Programme, which is sponsored by Siemens and backed by the Lottery.
The GB Rowing Squad is supported by the National Lottery Sports Fund as part of UK Sport’s Podium Programme.
