European medals for Johnson and Hill
University of Bath-based swimmers came home with two medals and a clutch of personal bests from the European Paralympic Swimming Championships.
Liz Johnson won silver in the SB6 100m breaststroke at the championships in Reykjavik, Iceland, while David Hill struck bronze in the S9 100m backstroke.

Johnson’s medal came on the second day of the championships – her time of 1:41.36 was only bettered by that of fellow Brit Charlotte Henshaw.
Johnson also made the finals of the S6 50m freestyle, finishing sixth, and the 100m backstroke, and the S6 100m backstroke, where she set a pb of 1:42.90 to finish fifth.
Hill set a time of 1:06.12 to win the S9 100m backstroke bronze. He also set personal bests in the heats and the final of the 200m individual medley, finishing sixth in the final in 2:30.36. His time of 1:06.94 in the S9 100m butterfly heats was also a pb but wasn’t enough to earn a place in the final.
University of Bath Coach Education and Sports Development student Kate Grey also swam well, making two finals, although she missed out on the medals. Her time of 2:44.22 for the SM9 200m individual medley, was her fastest swim since the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, earning fifth place in the final.
She also set a personal best of 1:25.39 for the SB9 100m breaststroke final.
The trio are coached by Mark Skimming at the University of Bath. All three have been selected to represent Great Britain at the International Paralympic Committee World Short Course Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, next month.
