Britain’s Katy Burke returns to World Cup action in Budapest tomorrow (Thursday) after securing the best Modern Pentathlon World Cup finish of her career to date at Medway in Kent last month.

Burke, a Sports Performance student at the University of Bath, has been in impressive form this season – her fourth place finish at Medway came hot on the heels of her previous best performance, a sixth in Cairo in March.

It means she goes into the fourth World Cup of the season as the highest placed Brit in the World Cup standings in fifth.

The Brits are battling it out for positions in Budapest and the fifth round of the 2010 World Cup in Berlin at the start of June to try to secure places on the GB team for the World Cup Final in Moscow later in June.

Burke is joined in the team for Budapest by University of Bath Biology student Freyja Prentice, who finished ninth in Medway and is currently seventh in the overall 2010 World Cup standings.

French and Politics student Samantha Murray, seventh in Medway and 12th in the current World Cup standings, also goes into action in Budapest along with Coach Education and Sports Development graduate Louise Helyer, who just missed out on the final in Medway.

David Atkinson and Simon Taylor contest the men’s event in Budapest.

The Budapest World Cup gets underway tomorrow (Thursday) with the women’s semi-finals and is followed by the men’s semis on Friday, the women’s final on Saturday and the men’s final on Sunday.

Pentathlon GB’s high performance centre is at the University of Bath.
