Biography >
Stacey was one of Britain’s brightest young swimming prospects as a teenager, winning two individual gold medals and a relay bronze at the 2003 European Youth Olympics in Paris, making her the most successful British swimmer at the competition.
Her achievements that year were recognized when Stacey was named Most Promising Newcomer at the Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year Awards.
But Stacey suffered a career-threatening knee injury while in Australia in 2004 and needed operations on the knee in 2004 and 2008.
She showed grit and determined to battle back from the injury to win the 200m individual medley gold at the 2005 British Championships, her first senior British crown.
She represented Great Britain at both the 2009 and 2011 World Championships, and swam for England at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games, where she made two finals, finishing sixth in the 200m breaststroke final and seventh in 100m breaststroke.
Stacey joined Team Bath in 2000 as a member of the age group swimming squad and progressed to the Team Bath performance squad, where she is coached by Mark Skimming.
