Flora wins sailing World Junior Champs silver

03 August 2011

University of Bath Sports Performance student Flora Stewart is celebrating winning silver at sailing’s 470 World Junior Championships.

The 19-year-old took silver in the 470 class with partner Anna Burnet. The pair are both members of Skandia Team GBR’s Transitional squad and Flora receives support from the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS).

The pair won the women’s medal race at the end of the week-long regatta and finished second overall behind the German crew of Annika Bochmann and Anika Lorenz.

Stewart said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the overall result after a hard winter’s training in Weymouth. I’d like to thank TASS for their support.”

The pair have been training together for three years, initially in 420 class boats before they switched to the Olympic 470 class boats in September last year.

The 470 World Junior Championships regatta took place at Medemblik in the Netherlands and the pair return to action next week at the European Junior Championships.
