BUCS Weekly Update – Week 7
This week has seen Bath rocket up to third in the BUCS overall league table, mostly thanks to a strong showing by the Swimming club at the Short Course Championships in Sheffield.
This included Michael Jamieson breaking the BUCS short-course record for 200m breaststroke in a time of 2.07.04.
Special mention also to Hayley Towner who is a BUCS individual double champion following her wins in the 100m and 400m Freestyle.
In addition to this there was a strong showing in the first round of cup matches last week with Basketball Men’s 1’s winning Team Of The Week for their 105-55 victory over Gloucester.
Also in the cup the Hockey Women’s 2’s defeated Winchester 2’s 27-0 on the back of the 5’s beating the same side 25-0 recently.
Winchester Netball 3’s were also on the end of another Bath bashing loosing to our 4’s 70-15. I’m betting Winchester don’t look forward to playing us…
Away from the cup and the Rugby League Men’s 1’s maintained their unbeaten league record winning 36-0 against Swansea.
Unfortunately the Rugby Union 1st XV could not follow suit, with Exeter ending their unbeaten start to the season 16-14. A close fought encounter in front of a crowd of approximately 2500 at Sandy Park. Our guys will no doubt be seeking retribution in the league return in February and Varsity fixture in March.
There is a return to a full schedule of league matches this Wednesday with 51 fixtures taking place.
The Match of the Week is the Lacrosse Men’s 1’s taking on Swansea on the Medical pitch (field between the main parade and the medical centre) at 2.30pm. The majority of you reading will have never seen a live Lacrosse match so why not come down and cheer the guys on!
This Saturday (19 November) we have a mixed Netball tournament going on at the Founders Hall from 3pm until 7pm.
Great fun and no minimum standard or experience needed!
All you need is a squad of 7 to 10 players, which must include at least three guys and three girls.
Send names through to 3thirty@bath.ac.uk to enter your team! There will be halls points up for grabs!
Quote of the week this week is a little different.
At the end of the week Activities Administrator Sadie Thwaites will be leaving us for pastures new. She has been sensational in her time here.
Although you may not have been in contact with her unless a committee member or captain, she has been crucial to running your sport.
I am sure you will join me in wishing her all the best for the future. Without further a do here is her favourite quote:
“Time enjoyed is not time wasted”
Play Proud
