Fencing

Sports people of Bath,

Last week was dominated by cup fixtures, with an impressive 19 wins and 10 losses.

The Team of the Week was the Fencing Men’s 1’s. They flew up to face Edinburgh to compete against the team currently top of the national standings. Despite being in the tier below their opposition they came home with an impressive 123-121 victory! Well worth the journey.

The Men’s Lacrosse 1’s also provided a cup upset beating Premier League Warwick 4-3 despite currently residing in the league below them. Once again all our Badminton teams gained wins and they were joined in gaining a 100% record by Tennis.

University of Bath RugbyThis Wednesday we have a special early Christmas present for you with the Match of the Week being the Rugby Men’s 1’s against Exeter.

This clash of the South-West titans is on STV Pitch 1, just behind the Astros at 2pm.

We will be seeking retribution for our only defeat of the season, which was at Sandy Park in front of a crowd of approximately 2500. Be sure to get down and show your support for a game where there are more than just points up for grabs, especially in the lead up to the Varsity fixture on 24 March 2012.

Tuesday this week sees the meeting of Council, Senate, Students’ Union, where I will be presenting a paper on Activities and Recreation.

One of the main suggestions I will be making is the recommendation that the University gives the go ahead for plans to be developed for a 3G (artificial turf) pitch. This would make a massive difference to the level of activity we can offer for grass sports and ease pressure on other facilities.

There are many other recommendations I will be making around refurbishing the Founders Hall, maintaining investment in recreational sport and supporting development opportunities through sport.

The Vice-Chancellor sits on this committee so if there is anywhere to move things forward this is it. Wish me luck and I will keep you all updated on what happens!

This brings me to one of my favourite sporting quotes, which is applicable to many aspects of life. The specific context I would give it is to your club committees. They do some fantastic work and without them sport at this University would be nothing like as good as it is.Chris Clements - VP Sport

Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.” Michael Jordan.

The work they do gives you the opportunity and the best thanks you can give them is by making it happen on the field!

Play Proud,

Chris Clements
