Message from Director of Sport Stephen Baddeley ahead of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

26 July 2012

I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate athletes who train at the University of Bath on their selection to compete at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The Olympic Games are the highlight of any athlete’s career and it’s a particularly momentous occasion to have the opportunity to compete at a home Olympics.

I’m very proud to say 25 athletes who train at the University have been selected to compete at the Olympics across seven different sports.

Twenty-three of them will represent Team GB around five per cent of the British team.

I’d like to wish all 25 athletes and member of the University’s alumni selected for the Games  – the very best of luck for London 2012.

I hope your performances will inspire future generations of young athletes.

Many coaches and support staff based in Bath will also be at the Games in an official capacity and I would like to congratulate them too on playing a part in the greatest sporting show on earth. I hope you enjoy the experience.

I would also like to take this opportunity to wish the best of luck to the many teams from around the globe that have been preparing for London 2012 at Team Bath.

In recent weeks we’ve had athletes from 13 countries training for the Olympics at the Sports Training Village. It’s been a fascinating and truly inspirational few weeks for all of us.

The feedback from teams has been good and I’d like to thank all of our staff and volunteers who have helped make our guests so welcome.

For those of us in Bath during the Olympics, you are welcome to join us to watch the pick of the live action on our brand new video wall at the Sports Training Village.

You can also follow the performances of Bath’s athletes on TeamBath.com

Enjoy the Games.
