More silverware for Team Bath judo players

24 March 2014

University of Bath-based judo players produced more terrific results in South America with Gary Hall and Megan Fletcher both winning medals at the Pan American Open in Argentina.

Hall’s silver medal in the under-90kg class at Buenos Aires was particularly impressive as it was his first time competing at World Cup level.

He won all three of his preliminary round fights to set up a semi-final against fellow Brit Matthew Pursey.

Hall, who trains in Bath twice a week, won the contest to set up a final against Eduardo Silva, which the Brazilian won to take gold.

Fletcher followed up last week’s gold in Montevideo with silver in Buenos Aires. She won her opening two bouts but was beaten by Ecuador’s Vanessa Chala in the final of the under-70kg class.

“I was very happy with Gary and Megan’s results,” said Juergen Klinger, the University of Bath’s head judo coach. “Gary is technically a very good player and he has shown what he can do at this level with this latest result.”

Team Bath player Adam Hall was fifth in the men’s under-100kg class with University of Bath graduate Andy Burns fifth in the under-90kg class.
