New challenge for Commonwealth swimming stars

04 August 2014

Some of Bath’s swimming stars of the Commonwealth Games will return to action at the European Championships in Berlin later this month.

Eighteen-year-old Siobhan-Marie O’Connor, who won six medals including a gold for England at the Glasgow Games, features in the 23-strong British team for the Europeans.

She is joined by Chris Walker-Hebborn, a double gold medallist for England at the Games, who like O’Connor, trains at British Swimming’s National Training Centre at the University of Bath.

Two University of Bath students feature in the GB team – Chemical Engineering student Andrew Willis and Sports Performance student Jay Lelliott. Willis won a bronze at the Games.  Lizzie Simmonds is also selected – she won a relay bronze at the Games.

Willis, Lelliott and Simmonds are all supported by the scholarship programme at the University of Bath.

And Jemma Lowe, who represented Wales at the Commonwealths, also competes at the European, which take place from 18 to 24 August.
