Adam Conroy crowned English Open Champion as Team Bath Judo Club show Sheffield steel

09 March 2015

Team Bath Judo Club’s Adam Conroy continued his return to full fitness by being crowned as English Open Champion on Sunday.

The 22-year-old, coached by Juergen Klinger, beat Peter Miles of Bradley Stoke – who had won the junior title the previous day – in the senior men’s U60kg final at iceSheffield.

It was only Great Britain international Conroy’s second competition in six months after a back injury brought his 2014 campaign to a premature close. He won bronze for the University of Bath at the BUCS Nationals the previous week.

Fellow Team Bath judoka Conor Murphy was also in action at the English Open, claiming silver in the round-robin U100kg category.

Alex Parke, representing Team Bath and the Army, won U73kg bronze after successfully coming through the repechage following a second-round defeat to eventual finalist William Johnson. Sam Potts was fifth in the U90kg event.
