Paris pistes await as fencer Chris Hay gets first Great Britain World Cup call

28 April 2015

University of Bath fencer Chris Hay will make his senior World Cup debut for Great Britain in Paris this weekend.

The Biology student, who helped Bath Sword Club win team bronze at the Beazley British Championships last week, will compete in the epee discipline at the Challenge RFF-Trophée Monal.

“I’m looking forward to it,” said Hay, who receives a Santander Sports Scholarship and is supported by the university’s Dual Career programme.

“It will be a bit like jumping in at the deep end and seeing if I can swim but I want to do as best as I can.

“I’m currently ranked in the top ten in Britain and I have represented GB in the under-20 European and World Championships.

“I’ve also been involved in an under-23 international and a couple of senior satellite competitions but this will be a good step-up.”
