England Women call up Fran Wilson for Ashes Test against Australia

05 August 2015

University of Bath graduate Fran Wilson has been called into the England Women’s cricket squad for next week’s Ashes Test against Australia.

Middlesex batsman Wilson, who completed her Sports Performance degree in 2014, earned her place after scoring back-to-back half-centuries against the tourists for England Women’s Academy.

Australia currently lead the points-based Ashes series 4-2 after winning the last two one-day matches but four points are available in the Test match, which starts at Canterbury on Tuesday.

Paul Shaw, head of England Women’s performance, said: “We have selected Fran Wilson as a straight swap for Amy Jones. Fran has been in excellent form with the bat for club and county this summer.”

Wilson has previously played for Bath CC, Somerset CCC, MCC Young Cricketers and England A. She has also played for the senior England team in one-day and T20 internationals, including the 2011 Ashes series in Australia.

A multi-talented sportswoman, Wilson captained the University of Bath women’s football 1st XI and was voted as the University’s Sports Personality of the Year at the 2014 Blues Awards. She is pictured above receiving her trophy from Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bath.
