Final French test for rugby sevens star Amy Wilson Hardy ahead of Rio 2016

24 May 2016

University of Bath graduate Amy Wilson Hardy will be looking to help the England Women’s rugby sevens team complete their Olympic preparations in style when they compete in France this weekend.

The final leg of the World Rugby HSBC Women’s Sevens Series will take place in Clermont-Ferrand on Saturday and Sunday, with England aiming to build on their Cup Final win at the last round in Canada.

Wilson Hardy – an Integrated Mechanical and Electrical Engineering graduate who plays for Bristol RFC – retains her place in the squad for the last major competition before Rio 2016, when the sport will make its debut.

England Women head coach Simon Middleton said: “We have secured a top-three finish in three of the four tournaments so far this Series and that will be our aim again this time.

“It was great to get the win in Langford under our belts and show people what the squad are capable of.

“We expect tough competition in France and look forward to it, in what will be the final time we meet most of these teams before going out to Rio for the Olympics.”

England will play the United States (10.44am BST), Kenya (1.28pm BST) and Spain (4.12pm BST) in the group stages on Saturday.
