World Championships debutants Cameron Brooker and Luke Turley among seven Bath-based swimmers in British squad for Fukuoka

Sporting scholars past and present Luke Turley and Cameron Brooker will make their World Championships debuts in Japan this summer after being named among seven University of Bath-based swimmers selected in the British squad.

Mechanical Engineering student Brooker (pictured left), supported by an Ivor Powell Scholarship, and Turley (pictured right), who was backed by Goldsmith and Santander Scholarships while studying Sports Performance at the University, earned their places after impressing at the British Swimming Championships 2023.

They are joined in the 29-strong team for Fukuoka by fellow British Swimming Performance Centre Bath athletes Freya Anderson, Tom Dean, James Guy, Jacob Peters and Brodie Williams, while David McNulty and Jamie Main are in the coaching team.

Also selected is alumna Anna Hopkin and University of Bath Swimming Club’s Ben Proud, whose 50m freestyle gold was one of two individual medals won by Brits at last year’s World Championships in Budapest – the other being 200m freestyle bronze for Bill Whiteley Sporting Scholar Dean.

The 2023 World Aquatics Championships are taking place from 23rd to 30th July, one year out from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
