By Air
Bristol International Airport is the nearest to Bath and is approximately 33 kilometres (21 miles) away. An express coach service connects the airport to Bristol Temple Meads Rail station and Marlborough Street bus station, from where frequent trains and buses operate to Bath. See these notes if travelling from London Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
By Bus
Buses 18, 410 and 418, branded “the bright orange bus” and operated by First Somerset & Avon, depart from Railway Street behind the Bus Station (which is opposite Bath Spa Railway Station) approximately every 6 minutes during term and less frequently at other times.
Buses 20A/20C circular routes connect the University via Weston, Twerton, Whiteway, Combe Down and Widcombe Hill.

By Car
The University campus is situated on Claverton Down, to the east of Bath. The A4 and A36 roads run through the city; the M4 motorway is approximately 16 kilometres (10 miles) distant.
If approaching from the M4, leave the motorway at junction 18 and follow the A46 south 12 kilometres (8 miles) to the Bath exit from the dual carriageway.
Turning right here brings you on to the A4 westbound to Bath. After 2.4 kilometres (1.5 miles) turn left at the traffic lights (signposted “City Centre A36″); after 640 metres (700 yards) turn left at the traffic lights towards Warminster. In approximately 275 metres (300 yards) turn right into North Road (signposted “Claverton Down”). The Quarry Road entrance to the campus is on the left towards the top of the hill (approximately 1.6 kilometres - 1 mile); the Norwood Avenue entrance is 0.8 kilometres (half a mile) further on in Claverton Down Road.
If approaching from the city centre, the A4 or the A36 eastbound follow signs to “Warminster”, “Claverton Down”, “American Museum” and “Park & Ride (University)”.

For the Sulis Club: From the city centre - follow the signs to the University, continue past the main entrance (which will be on your left) on Claverton Down Road. The Sulis Club is approximately one mile further on and is on the left. There is a car park on site. From the A36 - follow the signs to “Claverton Down” (as above) and then take a left turn at the roundabout where Brassknocker Hill and Claverton Down Road join together. The Sulis Club is on the left after half-a-mile. By public transport - take the number 20 bus from the University towards Combe Down.
Car Parking
There are pay-and-display car parking facilities at the University campus for the Sports Training Village and Founder Complex. Charges for visitors to the campus are as follows:
Monday - Friday 08.00 - 17.00
- £1.00 for 2 hours
- £2.00 for 4 hours
- £3.00 for 6 hours
Saturday 08.00 - 17.00
- £1.00 fixed
There are no on-street parking facilities in the vicinity of the University where all the roads are subject to either double yellow lines or Resident Parking Permit regulations. Parking at the Sulis Club is free of charge.
Please note:
- Motor vehicles must not be left unattended on the University roads.
- Persons using vehicles on the University sites do so at their own risk, and the University will not accept responsibility for loss or damage to them or the contents, however caused.
- The drivers of vehicles immobilised (clamped) will pay £50 per day as a release fee.
- Vehicles using the Pay and Display facilities failing to exhibit a valid permit or ticket will also pay £50 per day as a penalty. These are intended to be used by visitors to the University.
- Parking is only permitted in designated marked bays. Parking on grass verges, yellow lines or yellow hatch markings is strictly prohibited.

By Rail
Bath Spa mainline station is on the London Paddington to Bristol line. Very frequent services run to London, a journey of approximately 90 minutes. Bristol, with connections to the Midlands, the North and the South West is usually a 15 minute journey. By Taxi
Taxis are usually available from outside the Railway station or from ‘Orange Grove’, which is next to the Abbey. From the station ask to go via ‘Widcombe Hill’ otherwise you are likely to be taken through town which may be more expensive.
