Buccaneers triumph at Havant to take the title
Tim Davenport made it three of the best; Davenport’s success was made sweeter by converting past his old club to take Bath top and over all champions of the West Conference league.
Nearest rivals Bournville and Farham crashed out with defeats 6-0 and 2-1 respectively, preventing a catch up.
Team Coach, Jody Paul said; after the match
‘I am delighted with the performance of the players, the assistant coaches and the squad as a whole, it is testament to their hard work, dedication and combined team strength throughout the season to ensure we secure our place in the play off’s. I have to thank our sponsor Advulus who have been amazing and the support of the club who have made it all possible.’
Havant made a positive start to the game by playing at high tempo, Bath were slow to switch on, making errors around the park. Havant dominated in the midfield; in particular Ezz Mohammad would always offer a threat.
Bath defence came to the rescue through the guile and skill of Matthew Collison (Capt), Andrew Machin, George Farrent and James Mummer Young who would tackle with strength and bravery. Mummer Young would play a significant part in the second half to containing Havant.
This combination was to prove too good for Havant along with good keeping by James Bailey, Bath were able to prevent the opposition scoring as well as release the ball for midfield to work off.
Davenport would break the dead lock on the 32nd minute when he was able to slide the ball into the right hand corner of the goal, giving Bath the lead at half time. Davenport would score quickly at the re start on the 39th minute by smashing the ball in the goal after good build up play.
Despite collecting two yellow cards in the match forcing Bath to play with ten players, character, determination and collected team play through Rob Moore, Lewis Prosser , Matthew Ruxton and Rob Wilson in midfield would allow Bath to weather the number disadvantage.
Davenport put the game out of reach for the home side on the 65th minute after a number of previous attacks by Phil Ball, Richard Bendry and John Haines had been thwarted by Havant, saw the ball fall to the stick of Davenport who would coolly play the ball past the keeper.
