Reading U15 Girls 4 Team Bath Buccaneers U15 Girls 1 EH PLATE QF
Bath Buccs U15 team were eliminated at the quarter final stage of the EH Plate by an experienced Reading side. Buccs started slowly, allowing Reading to dictate the play early on, and only a string of fine saves by Frankie Vaughan in the Buccs goal, and strong tackling by Fiona Murray kept the home team at bay. Gradually, Buccs’ midfield of Abi Everitt, Lydia Thacker and Pippa Barnes began to win more possession and from a short corner on twenty-five minutes, Gee Thompson slipped a neat pass for Pippa Barnes to drill home from close range. Sadly, Reading fought back immediately, and indecision in the Buccs defence allowed them to equalise just before half-time.
In the second half, Buccs started brightly. Reading possessed some skilful and fast attackers, and enjoyed a dominant phase midway through the second half in which they created a number of chances, converting three to pull into a 4-1 lead. Despite this setback, Buccs finished the game strongly, creating a number of chances to reduce the arrears, to a possibly fairer result.
Gloucester City U15 Girls 1 Team Bath Buccaneers U15 Girls 5
England Hockey Plate Round 3
Bath Buccs U15 produced an excellent performance, beating Gloucester City 5-1 to progress to the quarter finals of the EH Plate. The team dominated from the first whistle with Pippa Barnes playing a neat ball for Catherine Bolland to score an early goal. Catherine scored a second from a fierce shot on ten minutes.
Gloucester fought back, but some good work from Gee Thompson created an opportunity from which Susie Barnes coolly slotted home Buccs’ third goal. The only blemish on the first half performance was a lapse in concentration just before half time that enabled Gloucester to score a breakaway goal.
During the second half Buccs dominated both possession and territory, building well from a defence well-marshalled by Hannah Manship, Katie Jeffery, Olivia Matthews and Leah Elston-Thompson. A clever move involving Catherine Bolland and Helen Bartlett culminated in Pippa Barnes crossing for Katie Braithwaite to finish a fine passage of play with a fourth goal. In the last minutes. Gee Thompson slotted home a well deserved fifth goal in the dying minutes.
This was a particularly creditable performance from a Buccs U15 team including two twelve year olds - Saffron Green and Katie Braithwaite - and an eleven year old - Susie Barnes. Special mention must go to Ana Dolan and Amelia Hempleman-Adams, both of whom came in at very short notice and produced an excellent performance in goal and in the midfield respectively.
Team Bath Buccaneers U15 vs Yeovil U15
Under 15 Boys Cup 3rd Round.
Team Bath Buccaneers 2 Yeovil and Sherborne 2. Buccs win after penalty strokes.
Well done to the young squad who gave a strong but nail biting performance against a well organised Yeovil team. Buccs had several missed early chances and it was Yeovil who scored the first.
After a few tactical changes Buccs settled and played some great hockey, scoring either side of the break and looking like they had the advantage only for Yeovil to score at the end to force penalty flicks. Buccs scored all three of their flicks to take the match.
The confidence of strikers and goalie proved too much for the away side and Buccs march into the last 16.
Man of the Match > Tom Potter
Goals > Gooden, Abrahams
Flicks > Piesse, Horler, Borton
England U-15 Boys KO Cup Round 3
Guernsey U15 Boys 1 Team Bath Buccaneers Boys U15s 2
Buccaneers U15s boys squeezed past Guernsey into the last 16 of the EH National Cup in a hard fought game at Southampton on Sunday. on a very bouncy pitch Guernsey started brightly and put Buccs under pressure but
gradually the away team took control of the game forcing several short corners and some good saves from the Guernsey goalkeeper.
Eventually a neat pass in the circle from Alex Copestake found Pete Dobie in space to fire home and shortly after Dobie got his second following an excellent series of short passes around the area.
2-0 at half time was about the right score but Buccs visibly tired in the second half and the normally reliable rotation seemed to unsettle the team structure. Guernsey began to press and force a series of short corners which came to nothing but more worrying were the four breakaways leading to one on ones with Buccs keeper Iuaen Tranter who stood tall and kept the score at 2-0.
However the Guernsey pressure told and with two minutes to go one of the short corners was converted leaving a tense final period when Buccs gave the ball away unnecessarily. in the end a structured attack by Buccs lead to a short corner and the final whstle went much to the relief of the travelling fans.
Buccs await the draw on Tuesday and hope for a home game but will have to play a little better next time if they want to keep this cup run going.
