Our People
Since the UK’s successful bid to stage the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, attention is now more focused than ever before on sport and health-related activities in this country. This section of our website outlines the senior management team, coaches and athletes who all make up the Team Bath family and who help me deliver a programme of recreational and performance sport including some core and vital areas of sports development. They all play a vital part in our business of putting people first and striving to create excellence in all we do.
If you are a customer for our services and facilities, you will come into contact from time to time with my team. Please don’t hesitate to give them feedback – either positive or negative – from which we can learn and grow our services.
The contribution of Higher Education establishments to sport in the UK in the 21st Century is considerable and the University of Bath has been at the vanguard of sporting renaissance in our country. The University of Bath first began to offer sports scholarships in 1976.
Recent sporting successes have often carried the kite mark “made in Bath
” and graduates of our institution – or our elite sports programmes which are run together with national governing bodies of sport – have won medals at every recent Olympic and Commonwealth Games as well as other major events and championships.
In the sport of netball, where we play host to England Netball’s South West High Performance Centre, 27 Bath-based players have developed to play netball for England at senior or U21 level – a quite remarkable record. Team Bath’s netball team are the reigning (2006) Superleague Champions.
In Rugby we play host to national academies and we reached the British Universities final in 2006, in football, Team Bath FC play in a public league and reached the British Universities final in 2006, in hockey we are the home to TeamBath Buccaneers who play in the English Hockey League men’s Division One, in basketball Team Bath Romans play in a national league and i
n many other sports we have teams who are playing at the highest level.
Our contribution to sport, though, goes beyond the confines of elite sporting performance or world class facilities. We are actively engaged in community recreation, lifestyle and fitness programmes. It’s important to us that current and future generations have the opportunity to participate in sport just for the fun of it. Through Team Bath Tribe, our junior participation schemes, we are also working with local schools and clubs, sending out coaches into the community to work alongside teachers and enthuse those at the start of the sporting life.
At community level there are adult recreational and competitive clubs based within our facilities and running on a weekly basis. At further education level, we provide expert support to students who are working academically in physical education, sports science, coaching and other sports-related courses. Our sports scholarship programme, which dates back to 1976, is growing with the support of local, regional and national businesses. We hope you enjoy your time visiting our site and return often to our excellent news and other information services.
