Swimming
This sport epitomises the Team Bath philosophy with a whole pyramid of activity happening in the same place, based at the University of Bath 50m and 25m pools. Quite literally the swimming programme caters for babies through to Olympic medallists – from “learn to swim” to performance academies - and, if a young
child shows an aptitude for the sport, there is a well-defined pathway to make it to the top. The Team Bath Swimming Club (formerly known as the University of Bath Swimming Club) was formed in December 1996 and quickly developed into a major force in British Swimming. Initially comprising of little more than three Olympians, several student swimmers and two coaches, the scheme has produced and developed over 20 Senior International swimmers, and won over 70 medals at European, World
and Commonwealth level. The programme became GB’s first ever National High Performance Centre in 1998 and there are now over 60 swimmers active at National level and above, a team of five full-time and part-time coaches, and four current World/Olympic representative swimmers.
