Team Bath Junior Competitions
The University of Bath runs numerous junior competitions for players aged between 5 and 18. With the exception of the annual Road to Wimbledon tournament, all the events listed below are open to University club members and non members alike. Please click on the appropriate title to download an entry form. Tournaments that we regularly organise include:
Mini Tennis Red & Orange Tournaments 2009-2010
Mini Tennis Green Tournaments 2009-10
These are events of about 2 - 3 hours duration aimed at children aged between 5 and 10. Round robin draws are usual for these with short games or sets. The emphasis is on a fun introduction to playing competitively. All mini tennis competitions are held on the University’s indoor courts.
Junior Matchplay Tournaments 2009-10
One or two-day events where children are matched by age and LTA rating. Each player plays two matches per day of the tournament, the results of which go towards improving their LTA rating.
Junior Graded (Age-Group) Tournaments
One or two-day events of 8 or 16 draws. Each event is played to a conclusion, the results of which count towards a player’s national ranking for the appropriate age-group, and towards their LTA rating where appropriate.
Junior Box Leagues
Quarterly competitions in which players are grouped together in boxes of four or five. Each player plays everybody else in his/her box. Unlike the two types of event above, matches are arranged by the players with a deadline by which all matches must be completed and results returned to the tennis office. We then process the results so that they may count towards a player’s LTA rating. Entry to the box leagues is open to both University club members and non members alike.
Road a Wimbledon Tournament
An annual under 14, three-stage competition. Stage 1 is a closed event (ie. only club members may enter) run over a six-week timescale during April and May. In stage 2 the winning boy and girl plus the respective runners up progress to a regional event held around June or July. Stage 3 sees the winners and runners up from the previous stage invited to Wimbledon to compete on the most famous courts in the world.
Team Bath Mini Tennis Festival
Played during the summer half-term period in May/June, this tournament is for players aged between 5 and 10 training and competing with mini tennis red, orange and green balls. Singles, doubles and team events are staged for each age-group and for each of the three levels (ball colours). The emphasis is on fun within a safe environment that prepares the children for competitive events and tournaments in the future. The inaugural year of this event, 2005, attracted over 35 children.
Team Bath Junior Tennis Festival
This is the University’s junior showcase and is a Grade 3 tournament for National Rankings. Played over the first week of the summer holidays, it is an open LTA sanctioned event for any child with an LTA Rating, aged 10 to 18. Non-rated events are also included for players aged under 10 and relatively new to competition. Although the tournament is played over eight days, age-groups and events are staggered throughout the week, thereby allowing players and parents to plan their journey and their stay in Bath accordingly. The tournament attracts over 350 competitors per year and players regularly enter, not just from around the country, but also from abroad. In past years, overseas players from Europe, Singapore, Turkey and Saudi Arabia have visited the Bath Tennis Festival looking for new opponents and experiences.
Local League Matches
Junior Tennis Club members regularly represent the University in local league matches and national club league matches against other Avon and Somerset clubs. It is also our intention to enter adult teams into local leagues in the very near future.
Junior Matchplay & Age-Group Tournaments
The following Junior Matchplay and Grade 5 Ranking tournaments events are held at the University of Bath. Events are conducted under the Rules of Tennis and the rules and regulations of the Lawn Tennis Association, including the LTA Code of Conduct.

Players are guaranteed two (matchplays) or three (Grade 5’s) matches for each one-day event, and four matches for each two-day event.
