IDEALS Project in Zambia
The International Development Through Excellence and Leadership in Sport scheme (IDEALS) operates in partnership with the British Council and the
Youth Sport Trust
and aims to establish high quality and progressive projects for young people aged 18-35 from the UK and partner countries.
2010
The Sports Development and Recreation department have been looking for students interested in becoming part of a sports volunteering project in Zambia over the summer of 2010.
The University of Bath operates in partnership with UK Sport and five other universities (Stirling, Loughborough, Durham, Northumbria and UWIC) on the International Development Through Excellence and Leadership in Sport scheme (IDEALS). The aim of the project is to address some of the problems in Africa - such as education, economy and health issues - through sport.
Working in conjunction with representatives from the Zambian NGOs ‘Sport in Action’ and ‘EduSport’ the students will work in as sports development and coaching capacity in the heart of the local communities in the Zambian capital of Lusaka.
The project will give students the opportunity to add value to their studies, enhance their global awareness and develop their leadership skills before embarking on their professional careers.
The selected team will be required to raise £12k for the project through an ongoing fundraising programme in the lead up to their departure. Successful applicants do not necessarily need to study sport but must have some coaching qualifications and a keen interest in sport, coaching, global development and travel.
The deadline for application has now closed, thank you to all those who have shown an interest in the project for 2009-10
