Congratualtions to Rhianna Andrews

Congratulations to Rhianna Andrews for her best ever result at the British Championships.

She placed 2nd at the British Trampoline Championship in the Double Mini Trampoline event over18 division.

Rhianna is 14 and has been training with the Speed School run by Pete Ladlow since January and with Ed and Pete as part of the SW Talent Centre programme since April.

Harry Postil

Kayaker Harry Postil was the top British finisher at the European Jr River Racing Championships in Serbia last week with a 15th place finish in the Classic event.

He like Hannah Brown will be crossing over to Olympic Distance racing in October.

Tassey Swallow

Good luck to Tassy Swallow as she goes off to compete at the European Jr surfing championships, Spain in August.

Congratulations to Kayaker Hannah Brown and her coach Kevin Bowerbank

Hannah, a 20 year old from Bradford on Avon, is supported by the SW Talent Centre and has just won a silver medal in the classic event at the River Racing Senior World Championships in Spain.

In September Hannah will switch to the Olympic flatwater kayak disciplines in an attempt to make the Great Britain team for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Congratulations to Jenny McGeever and Chris Hay

Jenny and Chris with the MaestroJenny McGeever and Chris Hay are 18 year old fencers from Wellington Swords Fencing Club in Somerset and were amongst the first athletes to join the Talent Centre support programme.

They have made tremendous progress over the last year. In the past month, Jenny competed at the Jr World Championships and the European U23 Championships in Gdansk Poland.

She was the highest ranked British competitor in Gdansk where she finished 13th, having previously placed 34th at the Jr World Championships.

Chris is the current top ranked British U20 Epee fencer. He competed at a U20 World Cup in Laupheim Gemany in November. Placing 31st out of 140 entries he was also the highest ranked British team member at the competition.

Congratulations to both - all their hard work is paying off.

Scholarships

SW Talent Centre Athlete Application Form Feb 2010

More than 150 scholarships are available to help talented young athletes in the south west to fulfil their sporting potential.

The scholarships are being offered by the South West Talent Development Centre, a joint initiative between the University of Bath and Sport England.

The centre supports the development of the south west’s next generation of elite athletes by ensuring they have access to expert advisors at a crucial stage of their development.

The scholarships help young athletes, typically aged from around 12 to 22, to access advice from experts such as sport nutritionists, physiotherapists, strength & conditioning coaches, lifestyle management advisors and sports psychologists.

Young athletes being targeted for the scholarships typically have a diverse multi-sport More informationdevelopmental history in common with elite athletes, with many having performed at county standard or higher in more than one sport.

Its objective is to maximize the potential of people from the South West to progress to elite levels in sport by providing support to and building the capacity of National Governing Bodies to implement their talent pathways in the South West.
