Matthew was part of the victorious 4x100m relay team that took gold in Beijing 2008.
His first sporting success was swimming for Britain in Slovakia in 1996
He has had an outstanding career, gaining a gold and two bronzes at the IPC World Championships, Durban in 2006; two golds at the Paralympic World Cup, Manchester in 2006.
Matthew won bronze at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games where he was the only disabled swimmer representing England and a gold and two silvers at the Paralympic Games, Athens in 2004.
He added the medals to his already impressive haul of Paralympic accolades which now includes three golds, five silvers and three bronzes.
In 2009 he was awarded an MBE and soon after won gold, silver and bronze at the 2010 World Championships.
Matthew represented ParalympicsGB at London 2012.
He came seventh in Men’s 50m butterfly S7 and achieved a bronze medal (28.47) in the Men’s 50m freestyle S7.
