Team Bath players Emily Hollis and Chris Coles were both triumphant in the finals of Badminton England’s Yehlex Under-18 Circuit competitions.

The pair, who are both Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) students at the University of Bath, collected doubles titles at the climax to the under-18 circuit season at Milton Keynes.

The competitions featured the top-four ranked pairings at the end of the circuit tournaments. Emily Hollis and her partner Amber Gregory beat Natasha Bolding and Holly Robson in their women’s doubles semi-final and then beat Nicki Chan-Lam and Helen Fulker 21-12, 21-15 in the final.

Chris Coles and his partner, Matthew Nottingham, won the men’s doubles. They had to beat another Team Bath player Josh Green and his partner Philip Aspinall in the opening round by 21-11, 21-7, before comfortably beating Avinash Chandarana and Nayan Patel 21-7, 21-11 in the final.

Green had to settle for runners-up spot in the men’s singles, where he went down to Toby Penty in a keenly-fought 21-19, 14-21, 22-20 final.

Green had earlier dispatched Coles 18-21, 21-14, 21-17 in the semi, while Penty had beaten another TeamBath player, Stuart Rowlands, 22-20, 21-14 in the other semi-final.

University of Bath Chemistry student Chris Hotchen couldn’t get past the semi-final of the climax to the men’s singles competition in the Challenger Circuit. He lost his semi 21-15, 21-10 to eventual winner Lim Kenn. Hotchen and partner Ben Stawski lost their men’s doubles semi.

Hotchen went one better in the Satellite Circuit, beating James Allinson 21-17, 27-11 to reach the final, where he went down 23-21, 21-13 to Daryl Jacobs.
