Team Bath Buccaneers men’s firsts will be presented with their England Hockey League Conference West Trophy ahead of Saturday’s (20 March) home game at the University of Bath Sports Training Village.
The trophy will be presented by match official Peter Wood at 11.30am ahead of the Conference West fixture against Whitchurch, which starts at midday.
Team Bath Buccaneers now face the challenge of attempting to secure a place in the top-flight of English Hockey – the Premier Division – for the first time in their history. They will be one of four teams bidding for two places in the Premier Division at play-offs at Cannock from 1-3 May.
Jody Paul, Team Bath Buccs head coach, said: “It will be terrific to receive the trophy on Saturday, but we won’t have much time to dwell on it as we’ll be playing Whitchurch straight away afterwards.
“Winning the league is a fantastic achievement but it’s only only half of the battle. The bigger goal is to try to secure promotion to the Premier Division for the first time in our history and we’re now fully focussed on that.”
Buccs won the Conference West title with four games to spare when they beat Havant 3-0 away three weeks ago. They have now won 14 of their 16 league fixtures this season, with just one defeat and one draw.
They are currently 17 points clear at the top of the table from second placed Whitchurch, who are Buccs’ opponents on Saturday.
Their last game of the regular season is at Bournville on Sunday 28 March.
Buccs will face the winners of Conference North and Conference East in the round-robin the play-offs, as well as the team finishing ninth in the Premier Division.
