Team Bath’s Chris Coles reached the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles at badminton’s World Junior Championships in Mexico.

Coles and partner Matthew Nottingham beat the Korean pair of Bong Chan Jun and Ki Hwa Jung to book a quarter-final berth, but then went down to Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Rasmus Fladberg.

In the mixed doubles Coles and partner Jessica Fletcher went out in their opening contest to Korea’s Ji Wook Kang and Hye In Choi, who went on to win silver.

Fellow TeamBath player Josh Green and partner Toby Penty suffered a first round exit in the men’s doubles.

Coles and Green, who are both Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence students and train at the University of Bath, were members of the England team finishing 10th in the team competition.
