Britain’s pentathletes ended their European Junior Championships campaign on a high note by winning their second gold medal of the championships.

Katy Burke, Samantha Murray and Lydia Rosling put in a strong all round performance to win the women’s team relay gold at the championships in Golega, Portugal.

It was Britain’s second gold and their third medal of the championships. Burke had already won an individual silver medal in Golega while Burke, Murray and Freyja Prentice won the team gold. All four of Britain’s women in action in Golega are University of Bath students.

GB beat Poland into second place with Hungary taking bronze in the team relay, when Britain produced the fifth best performance in the fencing, second best in the swimming, fourth in the showjumping and the fastest overall time in the combined run/shoot.

It rounded off an impressive campaign for Great Britain, in which Prentice also finished fourth in the women’s individual event, while Jamie Cooke came fifth in the men’s individual competition.

Pentathlon GB’s high performance centre is based at the University of Bath.
