Team Bath Buccaneers Ladies’ firsts achieved the first win of their England Hockey League Conference West campaign courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Staines yesterday (Sunday).
Zoe Shipperley opened the scoring 10 minutes before the break in the fixture at the Sports Training Village, converting a short corner with powerful shot into the middle of the goal.
Mary Douglas doubled Buccs’ advantage on 55 minutes with a team goal after good work by Helen Earle and Charlotte Rees. Jo Slade could have made it three late on, but the Staines keeper produced a decent save.
Buccs Ladies are now seventh in Conference West and return to action on Saturday (9 October) with a trip to Buckingham, who are currently fifth in Conference West.
Buccs men are currently second in Conference West after drawing 2-2 at Guildford on Saturday.
Tim Davenport put Buccs ahead from a penalty corner after six minutes. Buccs held on to the lead until the final 10 minutes, when Nathanael Crawley levelled the scores on 62 minutes.
Lewis Prosser put Buccs back ahead within a minute, but William Blockley earned a point for the home team with three minutes remaining.
Buccs men’s firsts return to action in a 1pm start at home to Bournville on Saturday.
