Davenport hat-trick helps Buccs keep up pressure

Team Bath Buccaneers men’s firsts kept up the pressure at the top of England Hockey League Conference West with a 5-1 win over Bournville.

The prolific Tim Davenport rattled off a hat-trick for Buccs inside the first 13 minutes of Saturday’s win over Bournville – his three-goal salvo came within the space of four minutes with goals on the ninth, 12th and 13th minutes.

Shaun Matthews added a fourth midway through the first half and the score remained 4-0 until half-time,

Bradley Milburn-Anderson netted for Buccs to put them five-up 12 minutes into the second half, but Oliver Westbrook scored a consolation goal for the visitors eight minutes later.

Buccs are second in Conference West on goal difference to the University of Exeter and return to action on Sunday (17 October) with a trip to bottom of the table Stourport.

Buccs ladies’ firsts didn’t fare so well on their travels, going down 4-0 at high-flying Buckingham. Katrina Nicholson scored a hat-trick for Buckingham with goals on the seventh, 10th and 64th minutes, with Emily Court scoring the other on 47 minutes.

They return to action on Saturday (16 October) when they host Barnes Hounslow Ealing in a 1pm start. Buccs are eighth in the table, one place ahead of the visitors.
