Team Bath Netball announce 2011 Superleague squad
Three members of England’s bronze medal-winning Commonwealth Games team feature in the Team Bath Netball Superleague squad aiming to win a historic fifth title in 2011 and secure three titles in a row for the first time.
The 14-strong squad is an exciting combination of youth and experience. It features four current University of Bath students and six University of Bath graduates.
The squad features Pamela Cookey, who has already stamped her mark on the national Superleague having been named Superleague player of the season in each of the three seasons in which the award has been made.
She is joined in the squad by two other members of England’s Delhi 2010 bronze medal winning team, Eboni Beckford-Chambers and Stacey Francis.
Circle defender Sam Perry returns after a year working overseas as part of her International Management and Modern Languages degree.
Bath-born Katy Rose, a former Ralph Allen School student, has won a place in the Team Bath Superleague squad for the first time. The Team Bath high performance athlete has ‘come home’ to Bath after a spell away.
University of Bath Sports Performance student Mia Ritchie is included in the squad from the start of the season after being a late addition to the squad last time around. She was awarded winner of the David Vandelinde Award, which recognises achievements in both academic and sporting fields, at last year’s Blues Awards ceremony.
Team Bath have named 14 members of the 15-strong squad to enable another player to be added at a later date.
Jess Garland, Team Bath’s head coach, said: “We’ve got an exciting squad with a good combination of some experienced players and some younger players.
“We’re looking forward to the start of the new season,” she added. “Every season throws up new challenges, but I’m confident we have the right mix of athletes to keep up the incredibly high standards we have set ourselves.”
