Biography >
Simon was born in the Republic of Ireland but his family moved to Jersey more than a decade ago – and he represented Jersey in his biggest competition yet at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
The University of Bath student was one of just two track and field athletes in the Jersey team in Melbourne.
He cleared 2:05m in the qualifying heats of the high jump – competing in the cauldron of the Melbourne Cricket Ground – but that wasn’t quite enough to book a place in the final.
A former cross-country runner, he first tried the high jump in his early teens and took to it straight away. Set a personal best of 2.10m to win the 2005 South of England Championships.
