Biography: A double Olympian, Lizzie finished sixth place in the 200m backstroke at the Beijing Olympics 2008 and followed that up with fourth at London 2012.
Simmonds won a pair of gold medals at the 2010 European Championships in Budapest, one for the 200m backstroke and the other in 4x100m medley relay. She also took silver in the 100m backstroke.
She transferred to train at British Swimming’s National Centre for Swimming in Bath in September 2012, saying she needed a new set-up and stimulus to keep her at the top of her game.
In 2013 she started studying for a degree in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University.
