Student Skinner gets Great Britain call-up

13 January 2011

University of Bath sports science undergraduate Sophie Skinner has been called up to the Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland team to compete at the Senior Combined Events International from 29-30 January, 2011.

Skinner, originally from Crediton and an Exeter Harrier, is currently coached by Team Bath’s Colin Bovell at the University of Bath’s world-renowned Sports Training Village and was selected after taking silver at last weekend’s Senior British Championships – an event in which she was Britain’s top U23 athlete.

“I’m pleased that all of Sophie’s hard work has paid off”, said Bovell.  “She’s achieved this success despite working full-time this year as a teacher at Downside School as she is currently undertaking her year’s placement”, he added.

Skinner ‘s 2011 call-up has continued on from successful appearances last season for England at U23 level and at the senior European Cup multi-event.

The University of Bath has one of the leading university sports departments in the UK. Under its TeamBath brand, its success is based on the expertise and dedication of staff, and its excellent facilities, used by the community and Olympic medal winners alike.
