Team Bath judo players will aim to make their mark at the British trials, which take place in Sheffield this weekend.
Three athletes who won gold medals at the Senior European Cup in Sweden in October will lead the Team Bath challenge.
Jan Gosiewski, a University of Bath Mechanical Engineering graduate, goes in the 73kg class at the senior trials, while Tom Reed, a Business Administration graduate, contests the 81kg class, and Megan Fletcher goes in the women’s 70kg class.
The Team Bath contingent competing in Sunday’s senior competition also includes Gregg Varey at 60kg, Andy Burns in the 90kg class and Janine Johnson in the women’s 57kg class. Emmanuel Nartey, who holds British and Ghanaian passports, goes in the 81kg division.
The juniors go into action on Saturday, where Liam Ashton-Farr will be out to make an impact at 73kg, with Ben Fletcher contesting the 90kg class and Conor Murphy the 100kg.
The Team Bath group trained in Germany at the start of the year and trained with members of the Gothenburg Judo Club at the University of Bath over the weekend, giving them the opportunity to compete with different training partners.
“We’ve worked a on the technical and conditioning levels of our athletes,” said Juergen Klinger, Team Bath’s Judo Head Coach. “We’re preparing them the best we can for when they step on the mat.”
