Biography:
University of Bath graduate Gemma Gibbons produced an outstanding performance to win Britain’s first Olympic medal since Sydney 2000 at the London 2012 Games.
Gibbons lost to Kayla Harrison of the USA in the final of the women’s under-78kg class competition.
In 2009, just after graduating from the University of Bath with a degree in Sports Performance, Gibbons won bronze in the under-70kg class at the World University Games in Belgrade.
In November 2012 she returned to her old stamping ground to compete in the BBC’s Olympics Superstars special, which was filmed at the University of Bath.
