Team Bath take on Mavericks in repeat of Superleague final

15 March 2011

Team Bath aim to return to winning ways in the Fiat Netball Superleague when they host Hertfordshire Mavericks on Friday (18 March) night in a re-run of last year’s Superleague final.

Team Bath ran out 51-44 winners in that final to secure their fourth Superleague title, but Mavericks exacted an element of revenge when they edged out Team Bath by just a single goal at 42-41 in February.

Team Bath head coach Jess Garland is hoping another big Team Bath crowd will cheer them on after a Superleague regular season record of around 1100 fans turned out in force at the Sports Training Village for last week’s two-goal defeat at the hands of Northern Thunder.

“We have to win this one. We need to stay competitive at the top of the league,” said Garland.

“Having lost to Mavericks and Thunder we need to reverse those results next time we play them, starting with Mavericks on Friday.

“I’m confident we can beat Mavericks, but we know they’ll be tough,” she added. “We weren’t at our best last time we played them.

“We’ve had some positive discussions as a group since the Thunder game and we can draw some confidence from the fact that many of the reasons we didn’t win are in our control.”

Mavericks boast an array of players who developed their game at Team Bath, including University of Bath graduates Monique Wood, Sasha Corbin, Lindsay Keable and Rose Morgan-Smith.

Team Bath beat Mavericks in all four finals they have contested, with Mavericks winning the title on the only one in five occasions that Team Bath did not triumph.

The pre-match entertainment on Friday gets underway at the Sports Training Village at 6.45pm on Friday.
