Paralympic World Champions Paul Blake and Katrina Hart, world junior champion bobsleigher Paula Walker and British Universities champion swimmer Michael Jamieson are the latest winners of Team Bath’s Athlete of the Month awards, which are sponsored by Oakley and the Milsom Eye Company.

Paul Blake and Katrina Hart collected the awards for January for their outstanding performances at the IPC Athletics World Championships in New Zealand. Paul won gold in the T36 400m and silvers in the 800m and 1500m.

Sports Performance student Katrina followed her T37 100m Commonwealth Games gold in Delhi last year by capturing her first world crown with gold in the T37 200m in New Zealand, as well as bronzes in the 100m and the 4x100m relay.

Bobsleigh driver Paula Walker, a Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympian, received the February award for striking gold at the World Junior Championships in the USA  along with brakeman Rebekah Wilson.

And swimmer Michael Jamieson, a Sports Performance student, collected the men’s award for February for his performances representing the University of Bath at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Championships.

Michael, who trains at the British Gas Intensive Training Centre Bath, completed a 100m and 200m breaststroke double, earning the top male performance accolade for his swim over the longer distance. He has since completed British Championships double in the same events.

Stephen Baddeley, Director of Sport at the University of Bath, said: “I’d like to congratulate Paul, Katrina, Michael and Paula on their awards. Their achievements once again show the breadth of sporting talent we have at TeamBath.”

Tyron Dawkins, Oakley’s Area Sales Manager, said: “Congratulations again to Team Bath’s latest Athlete of the Month award winners. We’re pleased to be a part of recognising the achievements of such talented athletes at TeamBath.”

It was a particularly tough decision for the Athletes of the Month judges this time around with other athletes in the mix including snowboarder Jamie Barrow, netballer Stacey Francis, sprinter Danny Talbot, long jumper Kim Murray, skeleton slider Donna Creighton, wheelchair tennis player Louise Hunt and modern pentathlete Mhairi Spence.

Winners of the Team Bath Athlete of the Month awards receive framed certificate and a piece of Oakley eyewear from the Milsom Eye Company (formerly Vousden) of 20 Milsom Place, Bath. The Milsom Eye Company also offer a 15 per cent discount on Oakley eyewear to University of Bath students and staff.
