Team Bath aim to take step closer to play-offs
Team Bath’s netballers aim to take a step closer to securing a home tie in the end of season play-offs when they host Leeds Carnegie in the Fiat Netball Superleague on Saturday (30 April).
The reigning Superleague champions are currently third in the table and securing that place at the end of the league phase of the competition would earn them a home play-off against the team finishing fourth.
It’s the second time Team Bath have hosted Leeds in the Superleague this season. Team Bath won the first encounter, played in February, 69-33. Although it was a played at the Sports Training Village, it was technically an ‘away’ game for the champions.
Saturday’s game will see Team Bath continuing their philosophy of giving everyone in the squad some court time across the season.
Although four players are away on England duty in Jamaica, Team Bath can call on the services of experienced players like Gemma Fletcher, Sam Perry and Asha Tett, as well as players like Mia Ritchie, who have stepped up to good effect this season.
Team Bath head coach Jess Garland said: “It’s the TeamBath philosophy that we’re only as strong as the whole squad, so we try to expose everyone in the squad during the season.
“We’ve been playing our whole squad this season and we’ll be continuing that policy on Saturday,” she added. “It gives us the opportunity to prove we’ve got the depth we need as we hopefully progress towards the play-offs.”
Team Bath go into the Leeds game off the back of big wins against Celtic Dragons (68-29) and Team Northumbria (73-29).
“It was really pleasing to get those two big wins. We’ve got the best goal average in the league now, which is perhaps surprising given that we’re third in the table,” said Garland.
“We need to build on the momentum from our last two games. If we can continue that level of performance we should be able to get a home play-off. “
The pre-match entertainment for Saturday’s game gets underway at 4.15pm on Saturday at the University of Bath Sports Training Village. To buy tickets please see our Ticketline web page or call the ticket hotline on 0844 888 4412.
