Barry’s successful tennis career began on the Junior ITF circuit where he achieved a ranking inside the top 100, superseded by a senior ATP singles and doubles ranking. Fluent strokes, a punishing slice backhand and natural athleticism made Barry a tough competitor to beat, attributes which his players now face on court!
After two years on tour and training with World top 100 players in Italy, where Barry originates from, he moved to Bath to focus his attention on developing his coaching skills and theoretical knowledge of the game. He completed a degree in ‘Sports Development and Coach Education’ followed by a Masters Degree in ‘Coach and Sport Education’. During his time at University Barry’s tennis career thrived, he proved to be an invaluable member of the British University’s ‘Unbeaten’ USA Tour in 2004 and competed for the Bath University Men’s 1st team for five consecutive years. This won Barry a University ‘Full Blue’ for outstanding contribution to tennis. Whilst studying, Barry also began his role as a performance coach working on a part-time basis with the Bath LTA National Academy, moving to a full time position in 2005.
