Biography >
The diminutive teenager who views Saltash in Cornwall as home but is now based largely in Boca Raton, Florida has merited the highest profile of any British junior with the exception of Andy Murray for the past couple of years. Coached by step-father Jason Spence and managed by the influential agents IMG, the right-hander insists her ambition is to become the best tennis player in the world.

In 2005 her ITF junior combined ranking rose from 211 to 74 but she has yet to make an impression at any of the game’s majors. However, she recently managed to reach the third round of the United States Tennis Association’s Spring Championships in Carson, California and the quarter-finals of the Austria Spring Bowl.

Looking to gain invaluable experience she has spent much of the last year playing women’s tennis. After the Australian Open she spent another month Down Under, reaching a quarter-final in Wellington, New Zealand and qualifying for a $25,000 tournament in Sydney. Her 16th birthday saw her standing at No.838 on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour world rankings and this summer she intends to combine tennis with her GCSE exams after continuing to work on a correspondence basis with her school in Plymouth.
