Kris ends Nationals campaign on high note

18 June 2011

Team Bath-based swimmer Kris Gilchrist ended the British Gas ASA National Championships on a high note by collecting his second title at Sheffield last night (Friday).

Gilchrist, who trains at the British Gas ITC Bath, added the 200m breaststroke title to the 100m he won earlier in the week.

Gilchrist shaved over a second off his season’s best to clock 2:10.16 and go fifth in this season’s world rankings.

He said: “I felt really good in the water and knew I was heading for a good time. To be honest I’m a bit disappointed I didn’t dip under 2.10 but it’s still the fastest I’ve been in two years.

“I’m delighted with the progress since I moved programmes to the British Gas ITC in Bath. I’m training with a great squad and its showing in my performances.”

University of Bath graduate Richard Webb finished second.

University of Bath Swimming Club member and ITC Bath swimmer Hayley Towner took bronze in the 400m freestyle.

Meanwhile, Team Bath-based swimmers Amelia Maughan and Siobahn-Marie O’Connor have both been named in the 18-strong GB team to compete at he World Junior Championships in Peru in August. The pair both train at the British Gas ITC Bath.
