BBC Radio 5 Live to mark one year to go at Team Bath

Some of Britain’s top athletes will feature on air when BBC Radio 5 Live presents part of its One Year To Go until the start of London 2012 coverage from the University of Bath Sports Training Village on Wednesday 27 July.

Eleanor Oldroyd will present a special One Year to Go edition of 5 Live Sport: London Calling from the Sports Training Village between 7.30pm and 9.30pm.

The show is part of the BBC’s day of programming on 27 July that marks exactly one year to until the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

During the London Calling show Eleanor Oldroyd will interview athletes training at Team Bath with the goal of competing at 2012.

They will include Dai Greene, winner of gold medals in the 400m hurdles at both the European Championships and Commonwealth Games last year.

Tasha Danvers, bronze medallist in the 400m hurdles at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will also feature, as will William Sharman, 110m hurdles silver medallist at last year’s Commonwealth Games, and Jack Green, 400m hurdles gold medallist at last weekend’s European Under-23 Championships. Malcolm Arnold, UKA national events coach – hurdles, is lead coach for the quartet.

A pair of the Britain’s top modern pentathletes will also be interviewed – world number four Mhairi Spence and world number 25 Katy Burke. The pair, who are both University of Bath graduates, are currently finalising their preparations for next week’s European Championships at Medway in Kent, where the top-eight finishers achieve the 2012 qualifying standard.

The Great Britain rhythmic gymnastics senior group will also feature, as will athletes from a range of other Olympic sports.

Beijing 2008 silver medallist Ben Rushgrove will be among the Paralympic athletes who will have the opportunity to talk about their preparations for 2012 on national radio.
