Amy wins top sporting award

Amy Williams, Bath’s skeleton Olympic Winter Games gold medallist, has landed a top award presented each year by the Daily Mail to an athlete who combines sporting genius with the Corinthian spirit.

Amy, who trains at the University of Bath, has been presented with the Ian Wooldridge Award, which was established in honour of the late Daily Mail journalist. It is voted for by Daily Mail readers.

Sarah Wooldridge, Ian’s widow, travelled to Bath to present the award to Amy, who was selected from an impressive shortlist of athletesthat also featured diver Tom Daley, swimmer Rebecca Adlington, cricketers Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook, golfer Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell, and cyclist Mark Cavendish.

Amy also follows in the footsteps of a distinguished list of previous winners – triathlete Chrissie Wellington, swimmer Rebecca Adlington and heptathlete Jessica Ennis.
