University of Bath took to the field to partake in their first BUCS fixture of the year against a university who have provided tough competition over the last few years, UWIC.
After a very successful pre season, all involved were eager to put their training to good effect in a game that proved to test the players both mentally and physically.
UWIC, a very strong and physical outfit, made their intentions clear from the outset by trying to impose themselves physically over the University of Bath, but credit to the Bath players, they dealt with the storm and took an early lead through the boot of fly half Zak Vinnicombe to make it 3-0 to the home team.
Shortly afterwards, Vinnicombe converted another penalty to make the half time score 6-0 to the home team.
The second half started with the same intensity and it was not long before Vinnicombe played a big part in setting up a well worked try that saw a very physical Tosh Masson power his way over the line whilst fending off two UWIC covering tacklers.
Vinnicombe converted to make the score 13-0.
A further penalty from Bath’s number ten added salt to the wound of UWIC, and with sheer determination from all involved to prevent UWIC from scoring a solitary point, an outstanding defensive display saw a very impressive University of Bath team close out the game, with a final score of 16-0 to the home team.
