20 February 2012

University of Bath student Chris Hay helped England secure team epee gold at the Commonwealth Junior Fencing Championships in Jersey.

England beat Canada 45-35 in the final of the team competition to take the gold.

Chris, a Biology student at the University of Bath, featured in all of England’s matches and wrapped up his campaign with a 9-3 win over Canada’s Mathew Anderson, who had earlier won the gold medal of the individual epee competition.

Chris, who came 10th overall in the individual competition at the championships, is the recipient of a Santander Sports Scholarship. The scholarships are designed to help students develop their sporting aspirations alongside their academic studies.

He competes at the European Under-20 Championships in Croatia next month.
