GB rhythmic gymnasts’ case goes to appeal

Britain’s rhythmic gymnastics group say they are pleased their bid to secure nomination to compete at the London 2012 Olympic Games is going to be considered at an independent appeal. Sport Resolutions will consider the appeal on Wednesday 29 February. In the meantime the group continue to train at their University of Bath training base. Andy Pozzi collected his first senior national title at the weekend’s Aviva UK Trials and Championships in Sheffield. The 19-year-old, who trains at the University of Bath with Malcolm Arnold, UK Athletics National Events Coach Hurdles, clocked the World Indoors qualifying standard as he won the 60m hurdles title at the championships. Team Bath judo player Megan Fletcher achieved the highest World Cup finish of her career to date when she came seventh in Budapest at the weekend. Despite a tough draw in the 70kg class, she beat players from Ukraine and Russia before going down to the eventual gold medallist Fei Chen from China. The University of Bath swimming team finished runners-up at the overall British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Long Course Championships at the weekend. Calum Jarvis and Jenny Oldham both won one individual event each and were runners-up in another at the championships in Sheffield. Olympic silver medal winning modern pentathlete Heather Fell took a break from her build-up to the 2012 season to open a Sport and Fashion Exhibition at Bath and North East Somerset Council’s Fashion Museum. Lizzy Arnold, who trains at the University of Bath's Sports Training Village, won her second Skeleton World Cup title of the season when she took gold in Calgary. Cash raised at Team Bath’s charity pre-season netball contest was presented to the Mayor of Bath at half-time in Friday’s Fiat Netball Superleague fixture. Team Bath took on an All-Stars team for the season preview game in December.
